ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, on Monday to discuss enhancing bilateral relations between Erbil and Tehran.
According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, the discussions focused on expanding cooperation in various sectors, with a particular emphasis on economic and trade exchanges based on mutual interests.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, reflecting ongoing efforts to boost regional economic partnerships.
Regarding the meeting, PM Barzani wrote on his X account: “Today, I spoke with DFM Ravanchi about developments in the region. We underlined the importance of strong bilateral relations, economic reform, and trade cooperation to drive mutual prosperity.”
Iran has historically maintained close political, economic, and security ties with the Kurdistan Region, playing a significant role in trade and cross-border relations.
Trade between Iran and the Kurdistan Region remains a key component of their cooperation, with Iran being a major supplier of goods, food, and energy to Kurdistan.
In recent years, Erbil and Tehran have engaged in various discussions to facilitate trade, improve border crossings, and expand investment opportunities.
