ERBIL — Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), met with a delegation from the Peoples’ Democratic and Equality Party (DEM Party) on Sunday to discuss efforts toward achieving peace in Turkey.
The visiting delegation shared their views on the political situation and the peace process in Turkey, briefing Barzani on their meetings with jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and relaying a message from him.
Welcoming the delegation, Barzani emphasized that peace remains the only viable path to resolving the conflict and urged all parties to intensify efforts toward achieving a lasting settlement. He reiterated his full readiness to support and contribute to the success of the peace process in Turkey.
The peace process between the Turkish government and Kurdish political representatives has faced repeated challenges, with negotiations often stalling. The DEM Party’s engagement with Barzani highlights the importance of regional Kurdish cooperation in shaping a sustainable resolution.
The Kurdistan Region has historically played a mediating role in broader Kurdish political affairs, advocating for dialogue and peaceful solutions. Barzani has consistently backed initiatives aimed at securing Kurdish rights through nonviolent means, positioning his support as a key element in any future peace efforts.
