KRG Expresses Concern Over Federal Budget Proposal

ERBIL — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani issued a statement on Thursday addressing the stalled progress on amendments to Iraq’s federal budget law in the Council of Representatives.

Hawramani expressed disappointment that, despite several meetings and efforts to resolve the issue and resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, the proposed amendments were ultimately not put to a vote. “After the first and second readings, regrettably, no vote was held in the final hours,” he noted.

He criticized a unilateral proposal submitted by a representative of the Iraqi federal government to the Council of Representatives without consultation with the KRG or prior approval by the Federal Council of Ministers. “This proposal contradicts the prior decisions of the Federal Council of Ministers, particularly regarding the agreed framework for resolving the budget issue and resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan Region,” Hawramani stated.

The spokesperson warned that such actions harm the entire country, deepen existing issues, and fail to contribute to resolving ongoing disputes. “We strongly reject these unilateral efforts and proposals, and we will oppose them in every way. It is imperative that any proposals based on prior agreements are brought to a vote,” he concluded.

The KRG reiterated its call for adherence to previously negotiated agreements and for collaborative efforts to address the challenges facing Iraq as a whole, urging a commitment to solutions that serve all regions equitably.
