ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani on Thursday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, discussing the rights of Kurds in Syria and bilateral relations.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, PM Barzani described the meeting as “friendly,” noting that discussions covered recent developments in Syria and the importance of preserving the rights of all components, including the Kurdish population.

“I listened attentively as the Syrian minister provided an update on the situation in Syria and the efforts of the new administration to restore security, stability, and public services,” the Kurdish leader said. “He assured me that the Kurds are an integral and essential part of Syria and that their rights will be safeguarded and protected.”
Al-Shaibani extended an invitation for PM Barzani to visit Damascus, expressing hope for further discussions in the near future.
Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in Syria, stating that “our readiness to provide all forms of support to our brothers and sisters in Syria remains unwavering.”
The meeting also touched on efforts by Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani to unify Kurdish parties and maintain security in Syria.
This high-level dialogue comes amid ongoing political developments in Syria, where efforts to achieve Kurdish unity are gaining momentum. Analysts see the talks as a potential step forward in addressing the region’s evolving political and security challenges.
Earlier this month, Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), held a landmark meeting in Erbil with Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to discuss the Kurdish situation in Syria. The talks were welcomed by the United States and regional stakeholders as a significant step toward unity and stability.
