Turkish Warplanes Strike SDF Positions South of Kobani

ERBIL — Turkish warplanes bombed sites south of Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan on Monday, targeting positions held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a well-informed Kurdish source said.

The airstrikes hit Mount Qara Berkel, as well as locations in the village of Qashla and the vicinity of Sirrin, south of Kobani. There have been no reports of casualties so far, the source told BasNewst.

Meanwhile, the area around Tishrin Dam also came under aerial bombardment, amid ongoing clashes between Turkey-backed factions and the SDF.

The Democratic Union Party (PYD) administration has been accused of sending civilians to the war zone near the dam, a move legal experts have described as a “war crime.”

Earlier on Monday, the PYD-led autonomous administration called for an international force to be deployed to protect the dam from Turkish attacks.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported last week that a Turkish drone strike on the Tishreen Dam in Rojava injured civilians, marking the third such incident this month and raising fears that continued attacks could lead to the dam’s collapse.

According to SOHR, the strike injured three civilians and caused extensive damage to the dam and its surroundings. “A Turkish drone targeted a gathering of residents on the Tishreen Dam, east of Aleppo, with two strikes,” the monitor said, reiterating calls for an immediate end to attacks on the critical infrastructure.
