ERBIL — The South Korean Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Seungcheol Lim, has announced plans to establish an economic research center aimed at bolstering the region’s economic and trade relations with foreign countries.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Kurdistan Region Peshmerga Minister Shorsh Ismail and the South Korean consul general, alongside Deputy Consul General Park Minwoo.

Lim emphasized South Korea’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Kurdistan Region, praising the Peshmerga forces for their role in ensuring regional security and combating terrorism. “The Peshmerga is a sacred name for the Korean people,” he stated, recognizing their defense efforts against the Islamic State (IS).
Ismail reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to advancing reforms within the Peshmerga forces, including their unification and reorganization. He expressed gratitude for South Korea’s support, highlighting the potential inclusion of military technology in the proposed economic research center to benefit the Peshmerga forces.
The center is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering economic development and enhancing trade cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and international partners.
