Rights Group Reports 115 Arrests Across Iran in November

ERBIL — Iranian forces arrested at least 115 individuals across Iran during November 2024, a rights group reported, noting that the security forces targeted various ethnic and religious groups, with Kurds comprising the largest segment of detainees, accounting for 39 percent of the total.

The arrests included 16 women, three children, and individuals from various ethnic backgrounds. Among those detained were 45 Kurds, 26 Balochs, 10 Turks, four Baha’i activists, and two Christian converts, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said in a monthly report on Wednesday.

The majority of cases were reported in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, which recorded 26 arrests. This was followed by 23 arrests in Kurdistan province and 18 in West Azerbaijan province, all of whom were Kurds.

Other regions with documented arrests included Tehran Province, with 16 cases involving predominantly Persians, and Khorasan Razavi province, where nine individuals were detained. Smaller numbers of arrests were reported in Fars, East Azerbaijan, Gilan, Khuzestan, and other provinces.

Religious and faith-based minorities were also targeted. Those detained included six Yamani faith followers, four Baha’i activists, three Sunni Muslims, two Christian converts, and one Yarsani adherent. Among the detained Baha’i activists were Vahid Masoumi and Rozita Eslami, both from Shiraz, while the Christian converts included Ghazal Marzban Jorshari from Rasht.

Women and children accounted for a notable share of arrests, with 16 women and three minors under 18 detained. Among the arrested women was activist Zhina Modares-Gorji from Sanandaj, while one of the children, Sina Asadi Hakim, aged 15, was detained in Roabad.

Arrests also extended to professional groups, including six teachers and one student, as well as two journalists and one writer. Notable detainees included journalist Saeed Hosseini-Nejad from Rezvanshahr and teacher Mohammad Habibi.

Hengaw’s Statistics and Documents Center meticulously compiled the data, emphasizing the arrests’ impact on both ethnic and religious minorities. The organization called for the dissemination of this information to raise awareness of the ongoing human rights violations in Iran.
