ERBIL — The ruling Kurdish party, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has stated that the parliamentary elections were held in a democratic manner, and the weight of each party will be reflected in the formation of the next government.
The party also emphasised that it has no vetoes against any parties participating in the new cabinet.
Ali Hussein, head of the KDP’s organising bureau in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, told a press conference on Wednesday that the KDP had increased its votes across the Kurdistan Region and secured a seat in Halabja province.
Hussein acknowledged that the KDP’s victory is a victory for the entire people of the Kurdistan Region.
He further noted that the Kurdistan parliamentary elections were conducted democratically, with each party’s strength reflected in the results. The KDP secured over 800,000 votes, winning 39 seats in the next parliament, which consists of 95 general seats and five seats allocated to the region’s minorities.
Hussein also stressed that the KDP has no veto against any political party willing to implement the agenda of the next government. He emphasized that the new government should serve the people, and the party should no longer replace the government in running the region’s affairs.

The voter turnout was 72%. The highest turnout was recorded in Duhok at 78%, followed by Erbil at 74%, Sulaymaniyah at 65%, and Halabja at 69%.
