IHEC Reports 26 Violations, 39 Complaints in KRG Election Campaign

ERBIL – The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced the latest figures regarding election campaign violations and complaints for the Kurdistan Region parliament election, scheduled for October 20th.

On Saturday, IHEC Spokesperson Jumana Ghalai told local Iraqi media that since the start of the election campaign in the Region, 26 violations and 39 complaints have been registered through the sub-committees of IHEC offices.

"The number of violations received by the central committee through the sub-committees in the offices so far is 26. The number of complaints submitted to the election commission has reached 39," she added.

Earlier, Emad Jamil, head of the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission's media team, told Kurdistan 24 that the commission will closely monitor the election campaign and punish violators.

"Several violations have been recorded, and we have encountered many problems with the media speeches of the parties. We have warned them many times that their speeches must comply with the guidelines of the commission," he noted.

He stressed that no one can use someone else's biometric card; only voters can vote with their own cards.

The Kurdistan Region election campaign started on September 25th and will continue until October 15th, just five days before the election takes place.
