ERBIL — A woman gave birth to quadruplets—four babies in a single pregnancy—at the Women’s and Maternity Hospital in Duhok.

According to a statement from the Duhok Health Department, the quadruplets were delivered on Sunday morning.

The hospital reported that the delivery was supervised by Dr. Iman Mohammed Sadiq Tahir. All four babies were born alive and are in stable condition.

Three of the babies are girls, and one is a boy.

Quadruplets are extremely rare, occurring in only 1 in 700,000 pregnancies, according to scientists. Multiple births have a higher-than-normal risk of complications for both the mother and babies. 

Women pregnant with quadruplets face a 90% chance of developing preeclampsia, a dangerous pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure.
