Iraq-Turkey Political and Security Meeting Set for August

ERBIL — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Ukraine on Wednesday to discuss furthering the political and security partnership between Iraq and Turkey.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that both sides agreed to follow up on the decisions made during the recent meeting between Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, continuing negotiations on the path of development.

The meeting highlighted the importance of ongoing coordination to address mutual challenges. This agreement builds on a series of discussions and agreements between the two nations.

In late April, Prime Minister Sudani underscored the long-standing historical ties between Iraq and Turkey, which have culminated in more than 20 agreements focused on development road projects and water management, among other issues.

During a joint press conference in Baghdad, al-Sudani emphasized that the agreements with Turkey on water and development roads are set to last for a decade, reflecting a commitment to long-term collaboration.

He stated that these projects are envisioned as bridges fostering closer ties between the nations and cultures of the region, contributing to regional stability. The Iraqi-Turkish political and security partnership is scheduled to reconvene in August to further these discussions and agreements.
