Sinjar: PKK Executes Father in Front of Son Over Alleged Espionage

ERBIL — Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters have reportedly executed a man in front of his son on charges of espionage in the Sinjar district.

According to credible sources, four PKK fighters, concealing their identities with blindfolds, ambushed and opened fire on Ahmad Hasso Qolo near Mount Sinjar on Saturday evening. The victim was accompanied by his youngest son, Orhan, during the attack.

Eyewitness Darka Mazi described the horrifying sequence of events, stating that the assailants intercepted the vehicle, approached it, and mercilessly killed Ahmad Hasso Qolo in the presence of his son. The execution culminated with a fatal gunshot to the head.

Qolo, identified as a local businessman and carpenter, faced this gruesome fate. His wife had previously fled to Turkey, seeking refuge from the escalating violence in Sinjar. The PKK justified the act by alleging Ahmad's involvement in espionage for Turkey and exploiting the pretext of his family's departure.

The PKK, engaged in a prolonged armed conflict with the Turkish army spanning over three decades, is deemed a "terrorist organization" by Ankara. Despite a UN-brokered agreement between Erbil and Baghdad aimed at normalizing the situation in Sinjar and facilitating the safe return of displaced families, the region remains a hotspot for tension.

The Yezidi-majority town of Sinjar continues to bear the brunt of the conflict, as armed groups, including pro-Iran militias and the PKK, defy the terms outlined in the Sinjar agreement. This accord mandates the withdrawal of all armed factions from the region, a directive that these groups persistently refuse to comply with, perpetuating instability in the area.
