ERBIL — Kurdish security forces on Sunday confirmed that the bodies of two individuals, who were killed in the helicopter crash in Duhok province last week, had been discovered by Chamanke subdistrict.
The accident occurred last Wednesday at around 8:40 p.m. in the Chamanke subdistrict of Duhok province when a Eurocopter AS350 helicopter crashed, the Kurdistan Region's counter-terrorism service said at the time.
Two days later, the SDF Press Center announced in a statement that a group of their Counter-terrorism Units (YAT) were en route to Sulaymaniyah city in the Kurdistan Region to exchange security and military expertise. The aim, it added, was to improve the Units’ combat and security capacity in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and protect the areas of northeast Syria.
"While the two helicopters carrying our group of fighters were on their way to al-Sulaymaniyah city on the evening of March 15, 2023, they crashed due to bad weather conditions, leading to the martyrdom of nine of our fighters, including the commander of the YAT forces Shervan Kobani."
Initially, Kurdish security forces had confirmed that only one helicopter had crashed in the area, but a security source told Kurdistan 24 today that the second helicopter had fallen in an area distant from the presence of Kurdistan Region security forces.
