ERBIL — The Islamic State (IS) on Wednesday carried out a new attack against the Iraqi Army forces near the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk where severalsoldiers were either killed or wounded.
Kurdistan 24 reported that IS militants attacked multiple outposts of the Iraqi Army after targeting a military HUMVEE in Sargaran area in Kirkuk province, with preliminary reports indicated one soldier was killed and two others wounded.
Meanwhile, Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Service also reported that an improvised explosive device targeted a convoy of the Iraqi Army in Sargaran area of Kirkuk where three soldiers were killed and two more injured.
However, the counter-terrorism service did not clearly blame the Islamic State for tonight's bombing.
The Islamic State has lately intensified its terrorist activities in most parts of Iraq, especially in the disputed territories where the extremist group exploits a security gap to carry out attacks against civilians and security forces.
On Monday night, IS militants attacked the village of Albu Bali in Khalis district of Diyala province, where they killed eight civilians and wounded three others. Iraqi reports said that a vehicle carrying civilians had been targeted by IS snipers.
A day prior to that, the jihadists carried an attack against a convoy of the federal police near Safra village in Rashad subdistrict, in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk, where nine policemen were killed.
