ERBIL — Iraqi security forces on Wednesday killed two members of the Islamic State (IS) in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk, a military official said.
"Our units in Kirkuk have been able, with a qualitative operation, to kill two terrorists in the Wadi al-Shay in Kirkuk province," Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, deputy Commander of Joint Operations Command (JOC), announced in a statement.
"The heroic units are still continuing to carry out the duty in general to chase the defeated terrorists,” he added.
This comes amid a surge in the extremist group's terrorist activities in different areas of Iraq, especially the disputed territories between Erbil and Baghdad.
Responding to the developments, the Iraqi Army has recently carried out a number of anti-IS operations in the region to face the challenges that undermine the security and stability of the region.
