ERBIL — Turkey said on Wednesday that it has “neutralized” a senior member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) who was an expert in explosives.
Cited by the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency, an unnamed security source identified the PKK member as Umit Tarhan, codenamed Rezan Amed.
The source said Tarhan was “neutralized” during an operation by the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MiT) in Gara region of Kurdistan’s Duhok province.
The Turkish government and its affiliated media use the term “neutralize” to imply that the individual in question was killed or captured.
Tarhan had reportedly joined the PKK in 2009.
