ERBIL — A former fighter of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was assassinated on Friday in Kurdistan Region’s Duhok.
CCTV footages show the man, identified as Mohammed Alaaddin, leaving a taxi and going inside a store. While returning to the car, another man approaches and guns him down with three bullets.
Kurdistan 24 cited unnamed sources as saying that Alaaddin had left the PKK nearly six months ago and initially decided to reside in Sulaymaniyah.
However, after receiving repeated threatenings allegedly from the PKK, he recently moved to Duhok where he had applied for residence permit as he was originally from the Kurdish areas of Turkey.
Alaaddin had joined the PKK when he was under 18.
The PKK, which leads a nearly four-decade war against Turkey, is known for hunting down its members when they leave the party or stand against decisions of the leadership.
