ERBIL — At least two Iranian soldiers were killed and another was injured on Wednesday in an armed conflict with an Iranian Kurdish opposition group, monitoring organizations and Iranian military officials confirmed.
The confrontation reportedly took place in Brweshkan area near Baneh, close to the border with the Kurdistan Region.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights confirmed the report and said no opposition parties have yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Aref Sepehri, commander of the Iranian border guards in Sanandaj province, said the clashes erupted after groups of armed men attempted to infiltrate the Iranian borders in Paveh and Baneh areas.
He also introduced the groups as “opposition parties”, without elaborating on the incident and any casualties among the assailants.
