ERBIL — Four civilians were injured on Monday in an explosion near Hamrin lake outside the disputed Kurdish town of Khanaqin, Diyala province in east of Iraq.
Saadiya Mayor Ahmed Zargushi told BasNews that the men were in the area for fishing in the lake when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit them.
The four fishermen were soon transferred to a local hospital and they are said to be in a stable condition.
The Islamic State (IS) is blamed for the explosion, according to preliminary investigations.
The extremist group is highly active in the areas around Hamrin lake it regularly targets civilians and security sources with IEDs in the region.
