ERBIL — A source has refuted reports claiming that the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces had come under an Islamic State (IS) attack in Khazir.
BasNews has learned that the reports speculated an IS attack after multiple explosions were heard near the Peshmerga positions in Khazir, northeast of Mosul.
However, local sources said the explosions were the result of controlled detonation of IS bombs which the Peshmerga forces had collected from the region.
The explosives were safely destroyed in an open area near Zara Khatun village.
There have been no IS assaults or rocket attacks on the Peshmerga positions, the source confirmed to BasNews.
