ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has renewed a call on Baghdad to respect Erbil’s constitutional rights and treat the Kurdistan Region as a federal entity.
PM Barzani discussed the Erbil-Baghdad disputes during a meeting with British Ambassador Mark Bryson-Richardson and his accompanying delegation on Thursday.
“Both sides agreed on the importance of resolving the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, especially the oil and gas issue on the basis of the constitution,” a press release said.
“The Prime Minister stressed that the Kurdistan Region has fulfilled its obligations within the framework of the constitution and the federal government should respect the constitutional rights of the region and treat the Kurdistan Region as a federal entity,” it added.
PM Barzani further reassured that the Kurdistan Region is always ready to negotiate and reach an agreement that protects the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region and is in the interest of all Iraqi citizens.
