ERBIL — The United States and Iran are expected to hold indirect talks in the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday, the Iranian foreign ministry said today.
The move comes amid a push by the European Union to break a months-long impasse in negotiations to secure Iran's 2015 nuclear accord with the West.
Washington also confirmed the upcoming meeting in Doha and pointed out that Tehran needed to decide to drop additional demands that go beyond the nuclear pact, according to Reuters.
"Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani will travel to Doha on Tuesday for the nuclear talks," Naser Kanani, a spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry told state news agency IRNA.
Meanwhile, a source said that US Special Envoy for Iran, Robert Malley, was also expected to arrive in Doha on Monday and meet the Qatari foreign minister, according to Reuters.
Iran's Bagheri Kani, in the meantime, would be in the Qatari capital for the talks on Tuesday and Wednesday.
