SDF Captures Dangerous IS Leader in Deir Ezzor

ERBIL — The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Saturday said that it had captured a dangerous Islamic State (IS) leader in Syria's Deir Ezzor province.

The "local leader of Daesh" was captured during an operation backed by the US-led Coalition forces near Busaira in Deir Ezzor, the SDF's Coordination and Military Operations Center said in a statement, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State.

According to the SDF statement, the jihadist used to supply the insurgent group's suicide bombers with needed equipment and weapons to carry out terrorist activities in northeast of Syria.

The SDF forces also seized ammunition, military equipment, and weapons inside the militant's house, the statement added.

The SDF said in a similar statement last Tuesday that its special units had captured a senior Islamic State "specialist in IED manufacturer in countryside of Tabqa, during an operation backed by the Global Coalition.

During the same military campaign, the SDF forces also seized weapons and equipment at his house, the statement said at the time.
