ERBIL — Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Wednesday held a phone call with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese, discussing bilateral ties in the fields of security, economy, and investment.
"Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi @MAKadhimi received a phone call today from the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Anthony Albanese," Kadhimi's office said in a statement.
According to the statement, the Iraqi leader congratulated Albanese on his election as Australia's prime pinister, wishing him success.
During the phone call, Kadhimi underlined the need to further strengthen bilateral relations between Baghdad and Sydney, commending Australia's support for Iraq in its war against terrorism.
The Australian prime minister, in return, reiterated his country's full support for Iraq, the statement added.
