ERBIL — Iranian authorities have secretly implemented the death penalty of a Kurdish political prisoner, a human rights group revealed on Monday.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights identified the inmate as Firuz Musalou, who had been handcuffed and transferred from Urmia central prison to an unknown location on Saturday.
The former member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Musalou, surrendered to Iranian security forces in the border areas of Sardasht in 2019. He was sentenced to death in March this year.
Kurdistan Human Rights Network also confirmed the report and noted that the execution was carried out without the prior knowledge of his lawyer and family.
According to human rights groups, Iranian authorities have executed at least 168 people since the beginning of 2022.
