KDP Delegation to Visit Baghdad for Government-Formation Talks

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is dispatching a delegation to Baghdad to resume negotiations with Iraqi political factions on the formation of the new government, an official announcement said.

Iraq is struggling with the post-election tensions especially between certain Shia blocs. The situation has been further complicated since the withdrawal of the Sadrist Movement from the Iraqi Parliament.

KDP, the largest Kurdish political party, said the negotiation committee, led by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, has been ordered by President Masoud Barzani to resume the talks in Baghdad and help find a solution to the political deadlock.

“The KDP will spare no efforts in order to help the sides to reach an agreement and save Iraq from this unfavorable situation. The KDP followed the same direction in the past to establish understanding between the political parties,” said Bangin Rekani, who is also appointed a member of the KDP negotiation committee.
