ERBIL — The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Sunday that its forces had captured an Islamic State (IS) leader who was responsible for transferring information and carry out attacks in northeast of Syria.
The security IS leader was captured during an operation carried out jointly by the SDF's special units and US-led Coalition forces.
"He was active in transferring information &planning to carry out assaults in areas of NES, against various targets," the SDF's Coordination and Military Operations Center said in a statement on Twitter.
"Weapons, &military uniforms were confiscated with him in the desert of Rouieshed," the statement added.
Moreover, the Syrian Kurdish forces also captured an Islamic State cell, consisting of three insurgents, in al-Hol town.
"The cell was active in transferring money for Daesh cells, funding some active cells in Hasaka &other areas of NES," the statement added, pointing out that equipment and documents were also seized.
This comes a day after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that security forces in Syria's Raqqa had captured seven Islamic State members in an IDP camp.
The seven insurgents were captured in al-Mahmodli camp in Raqqa during an operation by the Internal Security Forces (Asayish).
