ERBIL — Casualties were reported on Thursday after the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) carried out an attack against the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces in Duhok province.
The PKK attacked the Peshmerga forces in Kani Masi area of Amedi district, where one Peshmerga soldier was injured, Amedi Mayor Warshin Salman confirmed to BasNews.
The victim was taken to the emergency department in Duhok city, the Kurdish official added.
It was not immediately clear if there was also possible material damages or if there was an engagement between the sides.
The incident comes less than four hours after two children were killed and two other civilians were wounded as a result of a PKK rocket attack in the vicinity of Aradna village near Amedi district.
Duhok Governor Ali Tatar noted in a statement that the PKK attempts to destabilize the situation in the region, pointing out that due to the armed group's "wrong policies", more than 300 villages have so far been vacated in the border areas of Duhok province.
The presence of the PKK in the border areas of Kurdistan Region has caused displacement of tens of thousands of civilians from their villages. The PKK, in the meantime, continues to attract increasing Turkish bombardments as well as airstrikes in the region, which put lives of civilians at a great risk.
