ERBIL — Politburos of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are set to meet today in Erbil, an official confirmed.
The meeting will be held under the auspices of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani at the Presidency palace in Erbil, according to Dilshad Shahab, a senior advisor to Barzani.
Kurdistan 24 said the meeting will discuss the political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
The two party’s politburos are meeting after a period of political tensions which has affected the entire region.
It comes less than a week after President Nechirvan Barzani, who also serves as the Vice-President of the KDP, visited Sulaymaniyah where he met with political leaders of different parties.
The visit to Sulaymaniyah was welcomed as an initiative to help the parties return to the negotiating table and resolve their disputes, especially for a unified Kurdish stance in Baghdad.
