KRG Rejects Having Deal with UK over Kurdish Migrants Deportation

ERBIL — The Representation Office of the Kurdistan Region in London denied on Tuesday having any agreement with the United Kingdom to forcibly deport illegal Kurdish migrants back to the Kurdistan Region.

In an official statement, the KRG representation office also refuted media reports claiming that an agreement on the forcible deportation was made during PM Masrour Barzani’s recent visit to London where he met with his British counterpart Boris Johnson and several senior officials.

“During the official visit of the prime minister of Kurdistan Region, and his meeting with the British Home Secretary, there was no discussion and no agreements on compulsory deportation [of Kurdish migrants],” reads the statement.

“The Kurdistan Region and United Kingdom cooperate on combating organized crimes, pursuit of criminals, and human trafficking,” it added, noting that the relations between Erbil and London are “strong and friendly”, and they are based on mutual interests.
