UNAMI Invites Kurdish Political Parties for a Joint Closed Meeting Ahead of Elections

ERBIL — The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has invited the political parties in the Kurdistan Region for a joint closed meeting scheduled for this week.

"UNAMI invited representatives of political parties in the Kurdistan Region (KR) for a joint closed meeting on Thursday 26 May," the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, said on Monday.

"With the KR elections scheduled for 1 October 2022, this meeting provides a welcome and timely opportunity for a direct exchange of views," she added.

In late February, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani set the date for the sixth parliamentary elections in the region.

The region’s presidency said at the time that a presidential decree had been issued in accordance with Law 1 of the year 2005 to set 1 October 2022 as the parliamentary election day of the Kurdistan Region.
