PM Barzani Asks IEA to Help KRG and Iraq Through Technical Assistance and Training

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has urged the International Energy Agency to help the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraqi federal government through technical assistance and training.

Prime Minister Barzani made the remarks on Monday during a meeting with Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA, on the sidelines of the annual summit of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“In the last 3 years, we’ve completed the biggest flare gas to power project — at 165 MW capacity; seen private solar projects emerge, and tendered three 25 MW solar farms, the Kurdish premier wrote on Twitter. “I urged Fatih Birol to help KRI and Iraq through policy advice, technical assistance and training.”

PM Barzani earlier the day met with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan for talks on common interests in trade and investment between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia.

"Friendly catch-up with President Vahagn Khachaturyan at WEF22. We explored common interests in trade and investment between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia," the Kurdish leader wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

In addition to speaking at a panel discussion on security in the Middle East, Prime Minister Barzani is also holding separate meetings with various world leaders on the sidelines of the annual forum in Davos.

Over 50 heads of governments are expected to attend the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in the Swiss ski resort town of Davos from May 22 to May 26. The Annual Meeting 2022 at Davos will focus on 'history at a turning point', the theme of the summit.
