ERBIL — An airstrike on Saturday morning hit a vehicle carrying Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters near Chamchamal district, to the east of Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region.
The airstrike was reportedly carried out by Two Turkish drones and left at least five people killed, head of Aghjalar district administration, Hemin Bahjat, told BasNews, noting that initial reports indicate that at least three of the killed were members of the PKK.
The official added that there are unconfirmed reports of destruction of a PKK military base near Dutaqal village of Aghjalar, in the vicinity of Chamchamal.
Security forces are deployed to the area where the airstrike has caused a fire in the nearby fields, other reports said.
Chamchamal is located on the main highway connecting Sulaymaniyah and Kirkuk.
This is the second Turkish airstrike in the area since last year in October when several PKK fighters were killed in an attack near the village of Sayda.
