Dutch Justice Minister Arrives in Erbil

ERBIL — Minister of Justice and Security of the Netherlands, Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, arrived in the capital of Kurdistan Region on Wednesday for a series of meetings with Kurdish officials.

Minister Yeşilgöz-Zegerius was received by her Kurdish counterpart Firsat Ahmed, Dutch Consul General in Erbil Hans Akerboom, and several other Kurdish officials.

Yeşilgöz-Zegerius’ visit to the Kurdistan Region comes less than a month after Liesje Schreinemacher, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, led a delegation to Erbil where they met with PM Masrour Barzani to discuss boosting partnership.

“The Dutch Minister delivered Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's regards to Prime Minister Barzani and expressed her country’s desire to develop relations with the Kurdistan Region in trade, investment, and agriculture,” a press release by the Kurdistan Regional Government said at the time.

“We have an important relationship with the Netherlands. They train our Peshmerga; empower startups and entrepreneurs, and now help increase agriculture production and investment,” PM Barzani wrote on Twitter after the meeting. “I thanked Liesje Schreinemacher for their support in our reform and diversification agenda.”
