ERBIL — Kurdish mountaineer Ranj Omar has lost vision on his way down the summit of Mount Everest, his wife confirmed to BasNews on Tuesday.
“We spoke over the phone this morning. Ranj’s health condition deteriorated and he was taken by a helicopter to the hospital in Kathmandu,” Rezhin Ahmed said.
She confirmed that Ranj has completely lost vision in his right eye while his left eye has partial vision due to severe cold he was exposed to during his journey.
“Doctors said he should remain under intensive care so hopefully his eyes will recover.”
It came a day after Ranj contacted his family to confirm that he had reached the summit and planted the Kurdistan Flag on the world’s highest peak for the first time ever.
