Over 130 People Visit Hospitals after Dust Storm Hits Sulaymaniyah: Official

ERBIL — The new wave of dust storm sent more than 130 people to hospitals in the past 24 hours in Sulaymaniyah, director of health department in the Kurdish province said. 

Sulaymaniyah, similar to central and southern provinces of Iraq, was hit by a thick dust storm on Monday which briefly forced the local airport to suspend the flights. 

According to the official, the majority of the visitors were suffering form respiratory difficulties due to the polluted air covering the city for several hours. 

Iraqi Health Ministry Spokesperson Seif al-Badr previously said 4,000 people across Iraq were admitted to hospitals for breathing problems. 

On Monday, local administrations in different provinces of Iraq decided to close down government offices and schools. Reports said the decision was extended on Tuesday in at least eight provinces.
