Shepherd Abducted, Killed in Tuz Khurmatu

ERBIL — A shepherd on Monday was found dead in the disputed Kurdish district of Tuz Khurmatu after being abducted by an unidentified group of men, local police confirmed.

Speaking to BasNews, Tuz Khurmatu Police Chief Hussein Ali pointed out that the dead body of the shepherd was found in an area between Chardaghli and Bostamli villages in the sub-district of Amirli.

The shepherd, who had been abducted by unknown men on Monday morning, was shot multiple times in his body with his hands tied up, the police official further explained.

The victim was from Chardaghli village, Ali noted, adding that an investigation has been launched into the issue.

According to the information BasNews has obtained, the shepherd was identified as Arsalan Habib.

Although no group or organization has yet claimed responsibility for the incident, the Islamic State (IS) is suspected to be behind it as the militant group often abducts shepherds and executes them if ransom is not paid by their families

Responding to a surge in the jihadist group's terrorist activities in the region, the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces yesterday launched an operation against the Islamic State in Qarachogh mountain in Makhmour where a number of hideouts, belonging to the group, were destroyed.
