PM Barzani Receives Outgoing US Ambassador

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received Matthew Tueller, the outgoing US Ambassador to Iraq, and his accompanying delegation. 

PM Barzani thanked Ambassador Tueller for his efforts to further develop the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States during his tenure in Iraq, wishing him success in his future endeavors, according to a press release. 

“I’m saddened to see my friend Ambassador Matthew Tueller’s tenure come to a close,” PM Barzani wrote on Twitter after the meeting. 

“He understands the potential of our partnership and our shared vision: a federal, independent Iraq that is at peace with its peoples and neighbors,” he added. 

Discussing the regional developments, and strengthening Erbil-Washington partnership in trade and investment were also discussed during the meeting. 

Tueller will be replaced by Alina Romanowski who previously served as the US Ambassador to Kuwait and Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the State Department.
