ERBIL — The US-led Coalition on Wednesday managed to shoot down an explosive-laden drone flying over their base in the Iraqi province of Salahaddin.

The drone was reportedly shot downed near Camp Speicher which houses US troops in north of Baghdad, according to an Iraqi security source.

The source further pointed out that the explosive-laden drone was flying over the Speicher base before it was detected and downed by the Global Coalition forces.

It was not clear to which group or organization the drone belonged. However, some Shia militia groups, known to be close to Iran, often target the US and Coalition forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
