Commander of Sadr’s Saraya al-Salam Militia Assassinated in South of Iraq

ERBIL — A senior commander of Saraya al-Salam (the Peace Companies), a militia group linked to Shia cleric and political leader Muqtada Al-Sadr, was killed on Saturday night in south of Iraq.

Media reports identified the victim as Abbas Dinar al-Shiwayli who was gunned down by an armed group in Husayniya district of Ammar, the provincial capital of Mayssan province.

The assailants managed to escape the crime scene before the arrival of security forces. An investigation is underway now.

Security sources anonymously told Voice of Iraq that the assassination is likely connected with a previous case in which a commander of the pro-Iran Asaib Ahl al-Haq was killed during public protests in the province two years ago.
