ERBIL — With the advent of Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan on Saturday, Islamic State (IS) militants carried out their first attack against the Iraqi police forces in Diyala province, a source said.
The insurgents targeted a security point of the 8th Police Emergency Regiment of Diyala located on the outskirts of Jlaibi village, in Abu Saida district, about 30 kilometers northeast of Baqubah, a security source said in a statement.
The police forces were able to repel the IS attack and the jihadists escaped the scene, the source said, noting that the incident did not result in any casualties but material damages to a thermal camera at the point.
A bomb explosion last Tuesday wounded two Iraqi soldiers after it targeted a vehicle of the 16th Division of the Nineveh Operations Command of the Iraqi army.
The bomb blast took place while the Iraqi Army forces and Hashd al-Shaabi were conducting large-scale operations in provinces of Ninevah, Salahaddin, and Anbar against the Islamic State IS militants.
