Iraqi National Museum Re-opened after Rehabilitation

ERBIL — Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi on Sunday re-opened his country’s National Museum in Baghdad after drastic rehabilitations. 

Kadhimi’s office said the ceremony was planned on March 6 to coincide with the first anniversary of the historic Papal visit to Iraq and the International Day for Tolerance. 

After the rehabilitate and maintenances, the museum for the first time is displaying hundreds of antiquities recovered from five countries in the past year. 

Iraq announced on separate occasions past year the recovery of hundreds of valuable historical pieces from the US, the Netherlands, Japan, Italy, and Lebanon. 

“The Prime Minister commended the efforts made by the Ministry of Culture and the rest of the authorities, in preserving Iraq's antiquities and heritage,” Kadhimi’s office said. 

The premier urged authorities to continue their efforts through diplomatic channels to find and recover all the antiquities looted before and during the 2003 war. He pledged “unlimited” support from his support and save Iraq’s heritage.
