ERBIL — The Iraqi Parliament on Tuesday announced three days for new presidential candidates to submit application, according to an official document.
Parliament Speaker Muhammed al-Halbousi issued a decree to state that new candidates will be able to submit their applications within the next three days, starting from Wednesday, February 9.
The decision came after the legislature failed to elect the new president of the republic among the current candidates as it was scheduled for the second session held last Monday.
The failure came after the main parliamentary blocs, including the Sadrist Movement, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the Siyada Coalition, and those of the pro-Iran Framework Coordination boycotted the vote.
The boycott, as the political parties said, was an attempt to help the sides reach a consensus over one candidate before entering the voting session.
