PM Barzani Chairs Cabinet Meeting on Border Revenues, Tax Reforms

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday chaired a cabinet meeting to discuss border revenues, tax reforms, and incentives better aligned with federal standards.

PM Barzani's office said in a press release that the cabinet "reviewed and approved a number of proposals seeking to optimise border revenues, the Kurdistan Region’s tax system, and its blossoming agricultural sector."

The proposals also include measures to further strengthen coordination with the corresponding federal ministries to protect and support local businesses and producers based on the Iraqi Constitution.

"The Council of Ministers also approved the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism’s debt relief plan for private citizens and business owners which will reduce debts owed, late fees, and penalties by 15%, valid for 90 business days from the date of issuance of the decree."

Meanwhile, it agreed to expand the powers of Minister of Finance and Economy to facilitate debt collection within the existing legal framework.

"Lastly, the Minister of Natural Resources, Kamal Atroshi, outlined the Ministry’s kerosene distribution plan, working closely with the relevant provincial and municipal authorities to ensure supplies for the winter can reach citizens across the Kurdistan Region," the press release said.

Around 67 million liters of kerosene have so far been distributed in different areas, including in the mountainous districts of Choman, Rwandiz, Soran, Mergasoor, and Shaqlawa.
