ERBIL — The Barzani Headquarters and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) have condemned Wednesday's bomb attack on the office of the Kurdish deputy speaker of Iraqi Parliament in Kirkuk province.
Unidentified armed men on Wednesday night targeted the office of Shakhawan Abdullah, the Kurdish Deputy Speaker of Iraqi Parliament, in Rahimiwa neighborhood of Kirkuk province.
The KDP said in a statement that it "strongly" condemns the "terrorist" attack and that the federal government should protect the lives and rights of all citizens in the country "equally".
The Kurdish party also called on the relevant authorities to find the perpetrators behind the incident and bring them to justice "as soon as possible" for the sake of security and stability of the country.
Meanwhile, the Barzani Headquarters also denounced the bombing in a similar statement and urged the Iraqi authorities to investigate the attack.
As a candidate for the KDP, Abdullah, who is from Kirkuk province, became the most popular Kurdish representative after receiving over 37,000 votes in the last Iraqi parliamentary elections held in October 2021.
Similar to Wednesday's incident, the representation office of the KDP in Baghdad came under attack last week. An official of the Kurdish party, meanwhile, managed to survive an assassination attempt in the Iraqi capital city.
