ERBIL — A Kurdish Kolbar was killed on Friday by the Iranian border guards in northwest of the country, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said.
Mehran Rahmani, 24, was shot dead while crossing the border between the Kurdistan Region and Iranian Kurdistan near the village of Kele, Hengaw reported, saying two other Kolbars were also injured in the same incident.
The human rights watchdog identified the two injured Kolbars as Ibrahim Rahmani and Hawre Ahmadi.
The victims were not carrying any goods at the time of shooting and they were gunned down without any prior warnings.
Elsewhere near Urmia on the border between the Iranian Kurdistan and the Kurdish areas of Turkey, three Kolbars have gone missing since last Thursday, January 1, Hangaw also confirmed.
The organization said Barzan Mihani, Asaad Saydani Fard, and Bahlul Saydani Fard went missing after an avalanche happened in the mountains near the village of Bawan. Locals have launched a voluntary search operation with no results so far.
Tens of thousands of the Iranian Kurdish residents of the border areas resort to portering goods through mountains between the Iranian Kurdistan and neighboring countries. They risk their lives in the harsh nature and border guards ambushes to survive the extremely difficult economic situation in Iran.
