ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) jihadists on Tuesday night conducted an attack on the Iraqi Army forces northwest of Kirkuk, with casualties reported.
Jawad Mohammed, a Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official in the area, told BasNews that the jihadists targeted a unit of the Iraqi Army forces in Dibis area, northwest of Kirkuk province, on Tuesday night.
According to the Kurdish official, at least two Iraqi soldiers were killed and another was injured as a result of the attack.
Military reinforcements were deployed to the area while clashes were ongoing, Mohammed added.
It comes amid a significant surge in IS terrorist attacks across the Kurdish disputed areas.
In at least five attacks against the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan Region last week, the extremist group killed 23 Peshmerga fighters and three civilians, while several others were injured.
