PM Barzani Visits Family of Three Brothers Killed in Latest IS Attack

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Friday personally visited the family who lost three of its members in last night's Islamic State (IS) attack in Makhmour, southwest of Erbil.

"I'm humbled to be in Makhmour to visit the Peshmerga frontlines and mourn with the family of the three martyrs lost in last night's attack by ISIS. I conveyed my deepest sympathies to the mother in particular," the premier wrote on Twitter. "They were sons, husbands and fathers."

"I also paid tribute to the other brave Peshmerga martyrs who gave their lives for Kurdistan," PM Barzani added.

He also paid a visit to the Peshmerga forces wounded in Thursday's attack and wished them a speedy recovery.

The Islamic State on Thursday night attacked Khidir Jija village in Makhmour, southwest of Erbil, where they killed three civilians who were sons of the chief of the village.

Following the attack, the Peshmerga forces launched an operation to hunt down the jihadists before one of their vehicles was ambushed by the insurgents, resulting in the killing of seven Peshmerga fighters.

Kurdish leaders, after the deadly attack, renewed a call for closer cooperation between Erbil, Baghdad, and the US-led Coalition forces, particularly in the disputed areas.
