ERBIL — Kurdish leader and the President of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, met on Saturday with Jordanian Consul General in Erbil, Fuad al-Majali, to discuss further developing “historic” relations.
Majali commended Barzani for his role in leading the Kurdish struggle for freedom, stability, and prosperity, a press release by the Barzani Headquarters said.
He also highlighted the sacrifices made by the Peshmerga Forces in the war against the Islamic State (IS) while praising the Kurdistan Region for generously taking in hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people from other parts of Iraq and refugees from Syria.
“Discussing the friendship and historic ties between the people of Kurdistan and Kingdom of Jordan as well as their leaderships, [the officials] stressed further developing the relations in different areas,” the press release added.
Discussing the latest political developments and the current challenges faced by Iraq were also on the agenda of the meeting.
