ERBIL — Polish Interior Ministry on Saturday refuted rumors claiming that Germany will take in the migrants who are stuck on the border of Belarus.
In a statement published on its official website, the Polish ministry said it considers the rumors "total lie and nonsense". It also warned of the possibility of dangerous developments if the migrants try to storm the country's borders.
"Among the migrants a rumor is being spread that on Nov. 15th, in an organized action, coaches from Germany will come pick them up from the border and Poland will let them through," reads the statement.
Videos went viral on social media on Friday showing thousands of migrants expressing happiness after hearing about rumors that Germany had decided to let the migrants enter the country through Poland.
"It's a total lie and nonsense! Poland will continue to protect its border with Belarus," the statement added. "Those who spread such rumors seek to encourage the migrants to storm the border, which may lead to dangerous developments."
Thousands of people from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are among the migrants stuck on the border between Belarus and Poland. They have been trying to enter the country over the past few days while the European Union says that they will not be allowed to enter Poland and that they should return to their countries of origin.
